TOPIC: Telemac2D computation continued file format

Telemac2D computation continued file format 1 year 6 months ago #42569

Hello,

I am trying to use a continued computation in Telemac2D. The manual says: "If necessary, the keyword PREVIOUS COMPUTATION FILE FORMAT can be used to select
a specific format. For example, in order to increase the accuracy of the initial state, it is possible to use double precision Serafin format. Obviously, this configuration is possible only if the previous computation was correctly configured in terms of results file format."

I am wondering what "correctly configured in terms of results file format" means. Does this mean that the previous computation file format must also be double precision?

Thank you,
Taylor

Hello Taylor,

The answer is yes. If you want to get the best accuracy as possible, you have to save the RESTART FILE (with RESTART MODE = YES) in a format with double precision (SERAFIND or MED) and then use it as a PREVIOUS COMPUTATION FILE.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for your reply, that is very helpful. However, I don't see the RESTART MODE keyword in the reference manual for Telemac2D. I see it in the Telemac3D manual. Is that keyword used to run a computation continued with Telemac2D?

Hello again,

If you use the latest release v8p4, this keyword (RESTART MODE) and the associated feature (to run computations from a previous computation file without loss of computation) were introduced in that release.

Anyway, to understand, classical SERAFIN file are stored in single precision whereas computations are done in double precision. When reading a file in single precision, you loose part of accuracy which could be better by reading more digits with double precision input files.

Hello,

That explains it, I am using v7p2.

That makes sense, thank you.

Best,
