open TELEMAC-MASCARET The mathematically superior suite of solvers

Hi guys, I am new in Telemac2d and for 5 days now I was unable to find a step-by-step example on how to start and run a simple case in telemac2d (e.g. a river flowing). I first used a fortran compiler but there where like 160 errors when tried to build the princi.f file (the most frequent was "unable to find BIEF"). I then tried to download Fudaa-Prepro but there were cases of "unable to launch the application" beacause of the certificates' signatures and licence problems with Java (I download and tested a series of Java versions and changed the environmental variables with no luck). I finally managed to install very easily the BlueKenue software and I am really satisfied with this one (easy to download, proper manual) but now, I cannot find a step-by-step tutorial for a simple case (e.g. river flowing would be the best). All the manuals I have read have only instructions on how to create a mesh or saving the workspace but is there any test case (with all necessary files created) I could download along with a step-by-step tutorial?

Hi,

It seems that you have a problem with your installation of the Telemac system. Thant's why you need to first install it properly and after try to start with other tools such as Fudaa or BlueKenue.
For a step-by-step installation, you can go to Documentation/installation/installation procedure with Python.

There, you can start by lanching Telemac on some validation cases where all required files are provided.

Thank you for your reply. I have read the documentation and still I cannot understand exactly how it works. I am trying to compile Telemac with makeall90 command (please see attached jpeg) that exists inside the bin folder but it fails to locate certain files. Please let me know whether you can locate my mistakes.

In the documentation it says that I should use the command makeall90 but it fails to locate certain folders although they are contained in the directory of HJ. I am really confused..

Even when I move all the folders it says that it does not recognize maktel command and fails to locate other folders as well.

Dear Pandim,

I notice that you are using perl version for the installation. If you are a new user, we recommand the Python version which is easier and more up-to-date.
Furthermore, I will recommand you to follow carefully the installation procedure and to see the forum part dedicated to installation on windows
(Telemac Installation/ Window version).
An important issue, you have to add the paths related to Telemac to Windows evironment.

Hi again Riadh,
Thank you for your reply. I have downloaded and applied Python27 msi.
Afterwards I have changed/edit the environmental variables Path and SYSTELCFG according to the instructions. I am now trying to compile Telemac according to $>,\> compileTELEMAC.py.
What is the $>,\> ?
Should I be in the Telemac or in Python27 directory to appply that command?

When I am in Python27 directory and apply the above command I get:
python: can't open 'compileTELEMAC.py', Error 21 No such file or directory.
Which makes sense since Telemac is not on the same directory as Telemac.

Moreover, is there any way I can 'Insert into Project' all the fortran files (the ones with the extensions .f) in one project and run it from there?
I have used many times fortran and I used to run everything like that (I was ctreating a .for file and then added all the nescessary files in a project).

You mean to use a makefile to compile all the .f files?
I think that this is not possible because this solution is suitabe for small number of routines, so for small codes. Here, for Telemac, the code is very big, with different aspect linked to the config, parallelisme, IO, etc..
So, the best way is to follow the installation procedure.
