Hello everybody,

i'm working on a modeling project where solutions must be find to alleviate river bank erosion. In the prospect to stabilize the banks by vegetation, i need to know the shear stress all along the bank's profile (according to the depths). Being new user, i cannot find any information in the manual concerning this "shear stress" (is friction velocity means the same?), hence i wonder if TELEMAC-2D is appropriate for this type of application and if it required inevitably the implementation of the SISYPHE module. I'm curious also to read some similar erosion projects with the telemac application to learn more about it.

Yes, friction velocity is u*, and the shear stress is ro * (u*)**2

Ok, by this, do you mean that Telemac-2D can provide alone a 2D visualisation of the shear stress without using Sisyphe?

And one last, do you have any idea of the time required for a novice to learn (self-taught) Telemac-2D in order to calibrate and validate a 2D model, 3km long? (Learning Fortran is necessary?)

Hello,

Yes, the value of u* given by Telemac-2D is obtained without the use of Sisyphe (though there is an option to get from Sisyphe a friction that depends on sediment conditions).

To learn Telemac-2D alone: I do not know exactly, though you have a number of test-cases and certainly one that is not too far of your actual problem. A training course is very helpful to get used to pre- and post-processors.

Hello,

as a fresh user on board, i'm starting to put my interest in all the Fortran subroutines and try to get familiar with them. In that sense, struggling to get along with, i would like to know if there is a document that you recommend in order to get a better understanding of how to use them and mainly the fortran language. The website docs.opentelemac.org helped me already a lot but i miss some practical advices.

In my case and as it's already exposed in this post, i'd like to add the shear stress variable as an output. I guess the preres_telemac2d and declarations_telemac2d must be added to the cas file but i don't know where to implement the formula in the fortran files, neither how to print them out in the .res file.

Same for the dragfo subroutine, i'd like to take into account these forces and their evolution while trees growing within the river bed. My question is how to indicate the location of the quadrilateral in the mesh. I compared some dragfo files but with no results.

Hello,

Please refer to recent posts by and for pilou1253 on subroutine dragfo.f. Otherwise you should use the "guide for programming in the telemac system" which is available on the website. As for the friction velocity you get it by adding US in the list of VARIABLES FOR GRAPHIC OUTPUTS in your steering file, so I am not sure of what you really want to program that wouldn't be already there.
