Converting Lat-Long to Telemac-MERCATOR. 12 years 2 days ago #6471

Hi,
I have a set of Telemac outputs (*.res files) that are in the Telemac-MERCATOR coordinate system. I am trying to load this flow data and add/overlay geographical information such as bathymetry and also point objects to the Telemac flow results. Therefore I need to know how to relate all this spatial data in one coordinate system.

Does anyone know how I can project data that is in Lat-Long into the Telemac-MERCATOR coordinate system? Is there a standard EPSG code that GIS software packages have that can be used? Or is the Telemac-MERCATOR projection simply a MERCATOR projection? What software packages do people use to complete this task?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Sorry for the name "Telemac-MERCATOR", but Mercator projection may be the correct name.
To convert data from lat-long to "Telemac-MERCATOR", the formulae used in TELEMAC are the one written in Jean-Michel Hervouet's book at page 40 if you have his book.
Perhaps the following program can help you:

File Attachment:

File Name: conv_longlat2mercator.f
File Size: 4 KB

Final tests are not necessary but I let them just to check.
Please note that the parameters LAT0 and LON0 (the latitude and the longitude of the origin) may be changed by users.

Perhaps other software can better do the job, I let you try (I think BK can).

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

Hi,

Blue Kenue supports coordinate conversion between LatLong and a number of cartesian coordinate systems (UTM, Albers, Lambert, etc.)
See section 1.4.3.4 in the manual.

Hope this helps... Martin
