STOP and RESTART from *_tmp file 10 years 9 months ago #12124

Hello,

I need to stop my computer today, but I have been running a simulation for quite a while and it is still doing the job. I would like to know if it is possible to stop the process, keep the temporary file and rerun it from the unfinished T2DRES file.

The default of the COMPUTATION CONTINUED procedure is that I need to reajust my boundary condition file to fit with the last time step of the previous computation file.

I thank you very much for this clearance.

Very best,

Alexis

Hello Alexis

Yes you can do that but you have to consider the following precautions:
- If you run in sequential mode, T2DRES is useful as a restart file. The only case that could crash is when you stop the computation during the ouput writing process and in this case, the last ouput result will not be completed. So take care about the stopping time.
-If you work in parallel, you need to gather the result files of all subdomains. This could be achieved with the "Gretel" tool that you find in tmp folder. The last remark relative to the sequential mode, holds here also.

With my best regards

Hello,

I also need to continue the computation from the previous temporary result. Since my T2DRES is quite a huge file, where could I find and how to use the LastSela utility which has been suggested to extract the last time step.

Hello

You can extract the last time step in the result file using Fudaa.
You can also use the result file as it and Telemac will use the last recorded time step. If you want to use an other record, you can use the key-word RECORD NUMBER FOR RESTART.

Hello

another way is to use the python script runSELAFIN.py with chop as option. You can type runSELAFIN.py -h for details.

-f is the first frame
-s the last frame
-r be careful since -r replaces the original file mySelafin.slf

runSELAFIN.py chop mySelafin.slf -f 6 -s 8 -r
