Hello all,

I try to validate the water level and current velocities of my hydrodynamic model, where the open boundary condition was adopted from tidal time series of TPXO7.2 using OSU tide predictor. The questions are, how confidence to only depend on the hydrodynamic data from the same global model for validation at several points inside the domain, or any other options could be used for the model validation like measured data. Thanks in advanced.

Kind regards,
Amyrhul

Hello,

If well calibrated and supported by a detailed bathymetry, you can be very confident in TELEMAC's capability to be correct at various measurements site given only the TPXO database at the boundary (bathymetry is your most critical information).

You can have a look at some of the real applications in the conference proceedings, in particular here: Conference Proceedings 2012, Oxford. Have a look at one of my application titled: "Coastal Shelf Model of Northern European waters to inform tidal power industry decisions"

Also, our colleagues from EDF recommend that you try using the regional database (rather than the global) when ever possible. Here is Chi-Tuan's paper in the same proceedings: "Use of tidal harmonic constants databases to force open boundary conditions in TELEMAC "

Hope this helps,
Sébastien.
