TOPIC: COUPLING TELEMAC 2D - TOMAWAC

COUPLING TELEMAC 2D - TOMAWAC 10 years 2 weeks ago #14790

hello, I would like to make a simulation considering the interaction TELEMAC 2D - TOMAWAC.
I read the chapter 8.2.7. manual Tomawac (Waves-current interactions: direct coupling with Telemac flow simulation). Below I attach the two files cas, the first realtivo to TELEMAC and the other for tomawac.

By starting the simulation I get the error represented by the figure which I have attached.

Could someone kindly help? What should I add or change to make sure you get accurate simulation of 2D TELEMAC - TOMAWAC?

Please for your help

regards

Luca

Hello,

I am not sure about your error but in your Tomawac cas file you have specified "VALIDATION=true" without giving a results file to validate against. You can give a validation file OR define "VALIDATION=false".

thank you very much for your reply. I would like to pair the two files cas TELEMAC and tomawac. With the project Telemac I simulated the propagation of a tracer by a given source located on the boundary of the computational domain.
The project Tomawac I simulated the propagation of waves in the same computational domain.

How do I simulate the effect of the wave has on the spread of the tracer? How do I simulate the currents that genenerano in the computational domain?
I just have to select the variables UX and UY in keywords VARIABLES FOR GRAPHIC Printouts?

I hope in your kind help

regards

Luca

Ps: the file cas Telemac and Tomawac are attached in the previous message.

Dear Luca,

Since this is your first time, I would suggest the following steps:
  1. Setup a standalone Tomawac model exactly as you want it to run in the end.
  2. If you have managed to setup the Tomawac model, then couple it with Telemac2D. Try to setup your model as simple as possible and if it runs successfully with wave driven currents, then start to refine it.
  3. Add the tracers.

It is much easier to troubleshoot one step at a time.

Costas

Thanks for the response Costas. I did the steps you told me but I have to ask you some questions:

1) I set up a simple project Tomawac
2) I created a simple project Telamac 2d and I made the connection between Telemac and Tomawac because of the following keywords:
COUPLING WITH: TOMAWAC
TOMAWAC STEERING FILE: cas_tomawac
WAVE DRIVEN CURRENTS: TRUE

3) I added the tracer

The simulation is working properly and not by mistake.

The coupling between Telemac and Tomawac seve me to evaluate the currents that are generated as a result of wave action.
If I impose as VARIABLES FOR GRAPHIC 2D Printouts terms UX and UY simulation crashes.

How can I fix this?
I leave out a few keywords in Telemac that does not allow me to calculate these currents?

I hope for your help

Leave out UX,UY from the Tomawac results. You have the wave driven currents recorded in the Telemac2D results by setting U,V. Also, you have to add "COUPLING PERIOD FOR TOMAWAC" in the telemac2d cas file.

Thanks for the relevant response Costas. I have one last question to ask.

The project TOMAWAC I have the following time parameters:
TIME STEP 5
NUMBER OF TIME STEP 3060

In TELEMAC 2D project I have the following time parameters:
TIME STEP 1
NUMBER OF TIME STEP 15300

Do you wonder what value should I put the keywords COUPLING FOR PERIOD TOMAWAC?

I hope for your help

Dear Luca,

When in coupled mode, number of timesteps in tomawac cas file is not used (actually they are used only in case you prepare a global results file at the end). Timesteps are defined in Telemac2D.

The timestep for tomawac is the timestep of telemac2d*coupling period for tomawac. Hence, if you want a timestep of 5s for tomawac, then you should use a coupling period of 5.

Hello, I tried to pair TELEMAC-TOMAWAC based on the suggestions you gave me.

The files related to cas Telemac and Tomawac are attached below.

After 100 seconds, the simulation passes by a number of sub-iterations of the frequency equal to 26 to a value of 2102254399. The simulation stops due to this error.

Someone might suggest how to fix this?
I missed a few keywords in the two files cas?

I hope for your help
