tpxo database issue with attempted parallel simulation 9 years 10 months ago #15379

Hi,

I am a novice user of the system so please excuse my lack of knowledge/terminology. I have recently created a Telemac2D simulation of Irish Sea hydrodynamics using tpxo boundary forcing. This method works fine in single processor mode on one system and I can run some nice simulations, however now I attempt to run on a high performance computing system format in parallel mode I get the following error when the tpxo database attempts to initialise:

forrtl: severe (67): input statement requires too much data, unit 16, file xxx

Please see attached screenshot from the output file for full details and also Cas file attached for reference. Any haelp is much appreciated.

thanks
M

Hi,

Can you tell me with how many processors you are running this simulation in parallel? Have you tried with a small number (2 or even 1)? Have you gotten the same error?

Otherwise, which version are you using?
Where have you downloaded the "h_tpxo7_2.f" and "u_tpxo7_2.f" files? Do they come from volkov.oce.orst.edu/tides/global.html (the tpxo.tar.Z file)? It is strange that you have a .f extension.

Finally, can you also send your boundary conditions file.

Regards,

Chi-Tuan

Hi Chi,

Thank you, it seems like you have solved my problem without trying too much!! I did say I was a novice user after all.

To answer your questions I was running with one processor and had tried also with two. I am using v6p3r2 and yes I downloaded tpxo from the source you mention.

What happened is I had numerous issues previously (to do with config etc) trying to get this simulation to run on mpi and it was whilst having difficulties transferring my files that I had renamed them, which appears to have caused the issue here. I simply removed these files and replaced with the originals u_tpxo7.2 and h_tpxo7.2 leaving the file names as are, then altered the Cas file to suit and it works fine now.

Again many thanks

M
