Hello everybody.

I am studying the case of Bisagno, an Italian river. In the attached picture I have represented its path. In the first part it has a free surface flow (blue line), while in the second part it enters a conduit until the outlet (black line).

I have 2 questions about this case:

1) Which is in your opinion the best way to represent the underground flow with Telemac 2D? Culverts or tubes options? Take into account that in case of intense rainfall the underground part can go under pressure, causing a flood that starts from the inlet of the underground section.

2) As you can see, our river presents a curve in the undeground part (red circle). How can I represent this situation avoiding the problems reported in pictures A and B?

Thank you so much in advance for your answers.

Flavio

Hi

The tubes should be more adapted in your case as the flow is not in charge all the time.
For the 2nd question, I don't understand where the problem is as the tubes (and also the culverts) are just a link between two nodes of the mesh (the inlet and the outlet). In your case, I suppose you will mesh the surface so the underground part is not in the mesh. maybe you should clarify why you would have situation A or B in your case.

Hope this helps
Christophe

Hi,
Thank you for the first answer :)

For what concerning the second question, I understand that it was not clear. Since the culverts (tubes) are linked by the same node, how can I manage the "yellow zone" represented in the attached picture? How Telemac2D moves in this case?

Thank you again,
Flavio

Hi
Do you mean there is an area (at free surface) where the outlet of a first culvert is also the inlet of a second one?

Yes. I don't know how Telemac2D manages this yellow area... Thank you

Hi
I'll advise you to separate the outlet of the first tube and the inlet of the second one to have the possibility to mesh this area.
The width of the tube is a geometric parameter, in the Telemac run, it's just apply to the inlet/outlet node.

To clarify this particular point, maybe you should show us a local zoom of this area with eventually a vertical cross-section.

Christophe
