Good afternoon,
I'm writing this topic because I have a problem in the interpretation of the results of a Telemac2D simulation.
The simulation gives graphical results that seems ok.
Because I want to know the discharge and other variables (B, F, H, S) to a given location, I've added a "section input file" and a "section output file".
you can see them in the attachments with the .cas file.
After the simulation has been completed, the values of Q, B, F, H, S were supposed to be in the "section output file", but here I can only find the values of "fluxes" (Q).
could someone tell me why?

another question: why some of the values of Q are negative? does it depend on the direction of the flux ? (in or out form the section).

Thank you in advance

Daniele

Hello,

the control sections are here for printing out or saving "only" the instantaneous or cumulated flow rates through some control sections.
Yes, the sign depends on in which order you defined the end-coordinates of the input section and if the flow is from left to right or vice versa.
The other variables (VARIABLES FOR GRAPHIC PRINTOUTS) like W,B,F, etc. are saved in your result file which is a binary selafin format. You can open this with Blue Kenue.

Hope this helpds,
Clemens

Thank you Clemens!

so when I select in FUDAA the option " VARIABLES TO BE PRINTED =Q,B,F,H,S" nothing change?? I mean, is it normal that in the section output file there are only the flow rate values? if yes, do you know the reason of this option?

I would have another question :)
I got very high value of instantaneous flow rates during a simulation...so:
do you know how the instantaneous flow rates through the control section is calculated? is it the discharge the flows under (or also above if the water depth is higher of the levees) the control section ?

thanks again

Daniele

Hello,

as far as I know the keyword "VARIABLES TO BE PRINTED" only prints out the variables on the listing printout during the simulation. You could save the listing printout to a file by providing the flag "-s", so e.g. "runcode.py telemac2d -s".
The control section is a 2D line, so Telemac integrates the specific discharges UH and VH along this line. Be sure that the line covers the whole width.
If you have oscillating or/and very high flow rates it is maybe an indication that you have instabilities and one help is to reduce the time step, among other options. Try to reach a steady flow field, so the control section must give you also the prescribed inflow.

Best regards,
Clemens
