Hey all,

I have a set up a model for the mauritania coast. I used the the TPXO-database for the open sea boundary (566). The elevations are quite well but the velocities are very low near nil. Have anyone an idea what I am making wrong?

I have attached my steeriing file and boundary file.

thanks a lot for any help!

Hello,

The only difference I see with the example "tide" given for Telemac-2D is that you do not use Thompson's boundary conditions :

OPTION FOR LIQUID BOUNDARIES : 2;2 (it seems that you have 2 liquid boundaries with prescribed tide ?)

This could make a difference.

With best regards,

Yes this could be. Thanky you, I will check it and let you know!

At the beginning I had three liquid boundaries (466,566,544). I have tried different boundaries types. Have you here any recommendations?
In attached file you can see my modeldomain.

with kind regards,

With the settings of
OPTION FOR LIQUID BOUNDARIES : 2;2

the calculation is frozen...

Hum, you should have 2;2;2 for the 3 boundaries, but I do not understand why the computation is frozen...

Hello,

A priori the best is to declare the 3 boundaries as Thompson, and let the theory of characteristics do the job...

the "Frozen" was my fault! Error in the boundary file!

I tried with 5 6 6 (prescribed velo and elevat.)with Thompson (2;2;2) at each boundary but the velocities and elevations are not plausible

Now i change each boundary to 5 4 4 (prescribed elevation) with thompson.

Or do I make any error in reasoning???

Unfortunatly, the velocities are still too low... I tried with thompson and without thompson. Simulations with thompson gives unrealistic values (green: velocities, red: elevations) and without thompson the elevations are quite good (Blue) but too low velocities (yellow).. (see attached figures)

are there any recommendations for values of KW: COEFFICIENT TO CALIBRAT TIDAL VELOCITIES ???

I tried with one open sea boundary (566) as well as with different (466,544,566)...

is there anything else which i have not consider?
thanks for any help

regards,
runkle

Hello!
I actually have your same problem, using TPXO model.
I imposed 544 as bc and I got nice water levels but very low velocities!
With 566 as bc, I had unrealistic values, both for levels and velocities
Did you solve the problem?
Any help/suggestion from the developers?

Thanks in advance
