Dear all,
I simulated particle tracking in Telemac-2D, in order to try to define water residence time in the bay that I am studying. The bay is part of a reservoir of around 800 km2 in Brazil and it has many euthrophication problems, due to multiple uses of water, climate changes and so on. The water in the bay is almost stagnant, the main driving force is the south east wind.
I controlled 35 particles spreaded in positions regularly distant inside the bay and simulated for three years (hydrodynamics just one week until steady state), for 10 cases, regarding different water levels, different controlled discharges and with wind or without wind.
Everything worked out fine (althought I could do it just in the v5p9 of Telemac and not the new ones that I am usually using).
In results file I have just points, is it possible to obtain point positions linked with time and maybe point index?! Or to search for this information afterwards?
I need have an idea of water residence time of this bay, one could also thing about setting a control section and observe after how much time how many particles are out or still in. Is it possible in some ways with Telemac2D?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards

Hello,

Particle position tracking with time is possible since v6p3. Also particle release routines have changed since v6p3, which may explain why your case works just with v5p9. So I would suggest to adapt your case to work with the latest telemac version.

Have a look at this document which explains the new particle routines:
Adding a particle transport module to Telemac-2D with applications to algae blooms and oil spills

Costas
