Hi
I did a simulation by Telemac 2D for a rectangular channel (simple simulation). I use Strickler as a roughness law.
I have two problems when I selected a time step number equal to 0.1 and a number of the time steps equal to 10000.
The calculation stops and I find this notification:
Telemac System 5.6 to 6.1 - Perl scripts version 6.1

then I change the time step of 0.01 with the same number of time steps 10000. Here there is a calculation but I don’t know why doesn’t work with a step of 0.1?? and I also I find a strange results of the water depth and velocity. I used a water depth equal to 0.15 m as a boundary condition in the downstream but the result of the water depth is between 0-0.01 m!!!
And the mean measured velocity was 0.2 m/s, but the calculated is between: 0.02-0.15
thank you in advince

Hello,

withou some details about your case it is difficult to trace the error.
Can you send the case?

Best regards,
Clemens

Ok,
according to your boundary condition file, at the east side of your domain you specify an imposed water level and at the west side the inflow. Since the outlet ist the FIRST liquid boundary and the inlet the SECOND liquid boundary, you should invert the values in your steering files in order to represent the right order of your liquid boundaries. With your definition e.g. you impose a water level of 0.0 m which can cause troubles, depending on your bottom heights etc..

Instead of:
COTES IMPOSEES : 0.0;0.15
DEBITS IMPOSES : 0.012;0.0

->
COTES IMPOSEES : 0.15;0.00
DEBITS IMPOSES : 0.00;0.012

And for river applications usually you don't need the Thompson boundary condition, see the Telemac manual.. So I would set: OPTION POUR LES FRONTIERES LIQUIDES :1

The case works but an advice for your mesh quality:
you should modify the edge elements at the liquid / solid boundaries in order to avoid that 3 points of the same element lie on a boundary. This can cause instabilities at the boundaries which propagate into your domain and they can be really annoying since they can prevent the simulation to get steady. You can do this in BlueKenue by -> Swap edge. After that you must create a new selafin object because you have a new connectivity table. Or in FUDAA (STBTEL) which has a function which does this automatically (Erase overstressed mesh).

Best regards,
Clemens

Hi Clemens

Thank you so much for your help and for your explanation, but just a question, I try to rectify the mesh by blue kenue, the swap edge is disabled, I didn’t use this option in T3 mesh toolbar, I don’t know how to activate this option
by fudaa, it’s simple, but, I find an extension of the new geo was .ser?? should I change the extension

best regards

Hi,
in BlueKenue you should work directly on the mesh, in your case it has the name "FOND". E.g. you can save the FOND as t3s mesh file, open it, do what you want with it and after you are sure that all is right, create a new selafin object and drag the mesh file into it.

The extension doesn't matter but you can rename it in order to get conform with Telemac naming.

Best regards,
Clemens
