Dear All,
I'm testing a short and rectangular channel with relatively high gradient of about 6% with a constant discharge. The result looks as both water depth and velocity has taken a furrow shape ( see attached files). Anyone know why this has happened and how to solve this issue? I have attached my Steering file, geometry file & boundary condition files.
Any hint is appreciated.
Kind Regards
Najib

Hello,

If you want to model a simple channel with a rectangular cross section, the bottom should not vary in the cross section. The problem is that you do not have vertical banks but very steep banks and it gives you dry zones that, given the only 6 elements in the width, triggers these oscillations.

Coordinates of about 4000000 m is also not very relevant for a short channel and it spoils accuracy.

With best regards,

Dear Jean-Michel,
Thank you very much for the hint, I regenerated the mesh by assigning a custom simple coordinate values for x and y as well as I made the bank slope flatter. The results look much better.
Best Regards
