Hi!

I am simulating the wind setup during a storm event and I am applying a time varying wind. I think that my results could improve if I had a wind coefficient that was varying with the wind speed during the simulation. This is standard in e.i. MIKE 3. Does anyone have a f-file for this already or can someone explain how I can program TELEMAC to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Charlotta,

Yes, the treatment is more sophisticated in Telemac-3D and has been left simple in Telemac-2D, where the 3D effect of wind will not be seen anyway. However you can correctly compute the effect of the wind on the free surface in 2D, so you might perfectly want to have also in 2D more accurate formulas.

You can take in Telemac-3D library what is in the subroutine bord3d.f around the message "A MORE ACCURATE TREATMENT". Two improvements may be taken here: the value of FAIR varying with wind velocity, and the fact that we take the relative velocity. You can also choose other formulas from the literature, those things are site-dependent. This is to be done in subroutine prosou.f (look for WIND or look at the uses of FAIR). If you have difficulties post another message. When you are satisfied with what you get we can add this in the trunk for the future new version, as an option or as an example in comment.

With kind regards,
