Hi everyone,

I have read some topics discussing about open boundaries, but I don't actually understand well. So I create this topic with the hope that someone can help me to sort it out.

My situation: I want to set up a 2D TELEMAC model for a bay having an estuary that exchanges water with the ocean. Therefore, the boundary in front of the entrance of the bay open to the sea.

To set up the boundary conditions at the open sea, I have only tidal constituents (semi-diurnal), or predicted tides (water-level).

Previously, I have done this research project with DELFT3D. Now I want to try with TELEMAC to compare the results, so TELEMAC is new to me.

My question is: how can I set up this kind of open boundary conditions in TELEMAC ? Particularly, how can I put the data (e.g water level and running with a period of one month).

Thank you so much for any help in advance.

Best Regards

Hello

This is rather classical boundary conditions for coastal and estuarian models.
If you have your forcing levels and velocities stocked in files, you can proceed as usual(see user manual). Otherwise you can use the automatic tide generation of Telemac, which is also well described in the user manual and in the following wiki

I hope that this helps

Thanks Riadh.

So, what type of boundary condition should I prescribe? Is the condition variable in time and space?

Hello Huy

it depnds on what data you have and which options you have decided to use. Automatic tide prescription is variable in time and space, otherwise, you can prescribe conditions varying in time and not in space (using liquid boundary file). If you want to use your own boundary conditions that are varying in time and space, you can edit subroutine bord.f (in sources/telemac2d)

I hope that this helps
