Hi,

In Telemac oil spill steering file there is the parameter OIL VISCOSITY which gives the Viscosity of oil used for modeling.
However when I checked some properties of oil as in the link below
www.viscopedia.com/viscosity-tables/substances/crude-oil/
the oil viscosity given in the table at link also gives the temperature at which the viscosity is determined, for example for Arabian Light Crude oil it is 10.7 mm2/s at 20 °C.

Thus I wanted to know as what is the temperature at which the corresponding Viscosity has to be provided in the Oil spill steering file.

Is the temperature given by parameter WATER TEMPERATURE at which the Viscosity of oil is determined, or any any other standard temperature which should be taken to enter the oil viscosity.

Thanks,
Gourish

Hi,

For the oil Spill modelling, you need to give the viscosity value corresponding to the water temperature.

Thanks,

Cédric

Hello Cédric,
Thanks for the reply.

But consider a case where
Toil > Twater
where,
Toil => Temperature of Oil at the spill instant
Twater => Temperature of water at the spill instant

So as in the above mentioned case should I consider the viscosity of oil corresponding to Toil or to Twater.

Thanks and best regards,
Gourish

Hello Gourish,

To my mind, I think that during oil Spill, due to the spreading phenomenon, the oil slick edge thickness must be very small and due to the water contact, even if the initial temperature is higher, the temperature edge of the slick must decrease quickly. So, I recommand you to use the water temperature.

Best regards,

Cédric
