TOPIC: Zonal sediment size and fraction definitions

Zonal sediment size and fraction definitions 1 year 10 months ago #41843

Hello,

I'm trying to set 4 zonal sediment size and fraction definition but I don't know how to do it. I read that it is similar to friction zones (I also have 4) but I don't know where to prescribe the size AND fraction to each zone (for each zone I have 3 diameters with their respective fractions).

Also, I'm trying to work with Gaia and Wilcock and Crowe formula and I wanted to know if it is better to set just one diameter (a mean diameter) for each zone instead of more than one an their fractions.

Any help would be helpfull. I'm new at Telemac.

Javiera

Hello Javiera,

The sediment sizes are set in the gaia cas-file (CLASSES SEDIMENT DIAMETERS). If you want to have different sediment zones you can set the initial sediment distribution in fortran in user_bed_init.f (See examples/gaia/hippodrome-t2d/user_fortran2/user_bed_init.f). Or you do it in the preprocessing (I use janet but I guess that it is also possible with QGIS or bluekenue or ...)

Concerning your 2nd question: how much sediment classes you need depends on the variability of the modelled sediment and your aim of simulation. The wider your sieve curve the more sediment classes are probably useful.
