Reading hydrodynamic file 12 years 4 months ago #4835

I am experienceing difficulties in properly reading the Hydrodynamic file when using sisyphe in the chaining method. (i plan to internally couple telemac and tomowac and then use sisyphe independantly until the new version comes out). First of all, im trying to get sisyphe to run just for tides but i keep getting the warning "VARIABLE : VELOCITY U M/S
IS IN THE FILE BUT WILL NOT BE READ", for each variable.
It seems to be reading it to some extent as the model will run and i can see these variables in the sisyphe results file. Time step and number of timesteps is ignored though, so sisyphe seems to calculate at each graphical output from telemac2d rather than interpollating the results and calculating at each sisyphe timestep. I have done nothing to the results file between it coming out of telemac2d and given to sisyphe. I have tried comenting out in the telemac2d steering file the variables to print, to that defaults are used (incase i had entered incorectly) but this doesn't help.

I am currently listing graphic output every 1440s as this is a multiple of the "TIDE PERIOD". i am hoping i can use a more standard 1800s if i can solve the first problem.

Can anyone help with this?

kind regards

Roger

H Roger,

SISYPHE uses the time step in the flow file to do the calculation. To use a smaller calculation time step (say one fiftieth of the time step in the flow result file), use
NUMBER OF SUBITERATIONS = 50
or something similar.

I would suspect that the line
VELOCITY U M/S IS IN THE FILE BUT WILL NOT BE READ
is written when reading the wave file.

Hi Michiel,

Thanks for your reply, thats really helpful.

I have tried inserting a waves file. I dont have a full length file yet, but want to include some waves in the computations. The manual says i can use the key word "WAVE EFFECTS =YES" to just use the last timestep from TOMAWAC. when i use this key word i get an error "ERREUR : Le mot <WAVE EFFECTS> n'existe pas dans le dictionnaire" so im wondering if the key word to use is slightly different to that in the manual?

kind regards

Roger

Hi
The keyword is EFFECT OF WAVES
You could check the keywords in the dictionnary file (in lib subdirectories) or use Fudaa-Prepro to configure your sterring file.
With the second method, you're sure to avoid keywords error...

Thank you, thats what i needed to know. thanks for directing me to the dictionnary file that will be useful in future.

I am now reading the waves file as well as a telemac2d file, but im still geting this message that the variable is in the file but will not be read (see below). Is this normal? SISYPHE will run, and give results files which include these variables so preumably they are being read.

Hi Roger,

Seems things are working then. Good job. The message regarding the wave data is correct, as this concerns the variables not being used. Don't worry about the messages when reading the flow file, I have seen them myself as well. It is a bug that needs fixing, but isn't effecting the results.
