Hi,
I would like to install TELEMAC in Windows server editions. Is it possible to do that? If yes, what is the different between windows Xp and Windows server installation.

Regards,

Hi,

Why would there be any problem installing on the server OS? I wouldn't do it on mine however, because I need the server machine to be free from software installations that could cause problems on the server operation. I would only install mpich2 there so that I could use its spare CPU power to run my models (parallel versions).

All the compiling and execution I would do it from my workstation.

Hi Coasts,

Thanks for your reply. So instead of installing telemac in server you suggest me to install in workstation. Do we need same OS on workstation as well as server? How can we do parallel access?I am really don't know much about computer. Please help me with this.

Hi,

When you run in parallel, the only restriction is the platform, not the OS version. This means that you can run only in Windows or only in Linux (or any other compatible platform). You cannot distribute a computation across PCs that some are linux and some Windows.

This of course has to do with the platform telemac was compiled on. You compiled in Windows, you run in Windows. The Windows version doesn't make any difference, because the actual execution is carried out by the mpich2 engine, which has to be installed on every computer that you want to use. So check the mpich2 compatibility list to see whether your Windows version is compatible. My guess if that all Windows version from XP and up are compatible.

Try to install a version of telemac following the guides on the site and then come back with specific problems, so that you can get help on this forum.

I hope it helps.
