Hello every

I learned that both the other two softwares from EDF Code_Aster and code_saturne can use the mesh of .med format to calculate. Does Telemac support .med format? Or Telemac can only use .slf format?

All regards

Hello everyone

After consulting some documents, I found some descriptions of MED format, but I am confused about how to use of "Med" format.

I read from Telemac_developer_guide that MED format requires to install additional libraries and add specific option to the TELEMAC-MASCARET SYSTEM installation, which it not installed by default. But Telemac_reference indicates that keyword "geometry file format" can define mesh format, and has a "MED" option.

Could you please tell me if "MED" format can be used directly by modifying keywords? or need to install additional libraries and add specific option first? I didn't find some detailed explanation.

Best wished

Hi,

Yes MED format is handled in Telemac for most of Telemac Input and output files.
You can have a look here (wiki.opentelemac.org/doku.php?id=installation_on_linux) on how to compile telemac to handle MED (search for med).

Then you just need to set the keywords for example for the geometry file "GEOMETRY FILE FORMAT" to MED to read the file as a med file.
same thing for the results file "RESULTS FILE FORMAT".

Hope it helps

Hi yugi

Thanks for your kindly help!

When I tried to reinstall Telemac, I found that the installation directory of Salome includes Med and HDF5 libraries (/<Salome Path>/prerequisites/). Can I use them directly?

All regrads

Hello yugi

I have compiled Telemac with MED support (from Salome library). The compilation process was successful, and the terminal shows "My work is done".

But, when I run a test case named "lock-exchange" from /v8p1/examples/telemac3d/,which used MED format mesh, the run failed with some error messages.

It seemed that there was an error in the MED mesh reading.

Here is the log file.

Hi,

Could you try running mdump on the geometry file ?
mdump is installed by med it does an ascii dump of a file.

What version of salome do you have installed ? And what version of MED and hdf5 ?

Hello yugi

Thank for your reply.

Sorry I did not get your point. What is mdump? I had not find any description about it in user_manual. The "geometry file format" only has 3 options(MED, SERAFIN, SERAFIND)

The version of Salome is 9.3.0. Also the version of MED is 4.1.0 and HDF5 version is 1.10.3.

All regards

mdump is a tool given by MED that reads the content of a MED file and display it in the listing.
It is not within Telemac but within MED.
It should be in $MEDHOME/bin/mdump.
Where $MEDHOME is the path to you MED installation.

you should run mdump geo_lock-exchange.med
And for the question that will be asked answer 1 for all three of them.

The goal here is to check that MED is capable of reading your file.

Thanks for your reply!

After I run mdump geo_lock-exchange.med, it seemed that the mesh information was read successfully. The result is as follows.

File Attachment:

File Name: mdump.txt
File Size: 160 KB

But when I run telemac3d with "lock-exchange", the program stopped and the error message was the same as before.

Best wishes.
