TOPIC: Wave height null inside the domain

Wave height null inside the domain 12 years 5 months ago #4657

Good day Artemis user

I'm having the following problem; the wave height is null inside the domain althought my bathymetric data are ok.

I did all the steps correctly, from mesh editing (Matisse), to 'conditions initiales and conditions limites' defining and fortran programming..
but the result is that the wave doesn't propagate correctly.

Anyone can help, thank you

Here is attached the case study, for whom interested!

Thank you

Hi,

I'll look at your case soon. It seems that you use HBT, that is correct.
You shouldn't use the **%R tables in V6P1, but rather the **T tables . So my first advise is to correct that.

Hi,

In V6P0, you should be using **T tables.
I will look at your case tomorrow but reading your fortran file I didn't find where the value of TETAH is set...

Good morning,

I set the value of TETAH in FUDAA, as i'm using V6P0.

Hi Gharbi,

I tested your case. The wave hight is not really null. It is a value that strongly decrease with the distance to the incident wave boundary. I noticed that the solver indicates a numerical probleme.
Your pic period is 8.4 sec. THe depth is about 10m so the wave length is about 75m. Your typical element size near the incident boundary is about 50m. This value is too higth. We recommand to use at least 10 to 12 elements by wavelength. Considering the smallest period you use (about 4s, so lambda is about 25m), it seems that you have to refine your mesh.

let me know if this solution works,

You can also use the direct solver (SOLVEUR=8) to save CPU time.

Hi
I did a new simulation, the model tured but the wave height has strongly decrease at the inlet of the harbor, so that the agitation is low, unlike the reality.

So i changed the domain: i made it bigger, then smaller than the firt simulation, and in each case i find a diffrent wave height value inside the Harbor. So the question is: does the domain influence the wave height value??? if yes, how i'm sure of the validity of the domain i use??

Thank you
