Hello,

I want to ask about the capability of three way coupling (sisyphe, TElemac2d and artemis or tomawac)
what is the difference between internal and external coupling as I read in the manual that telemac2d and artemis have external coupling. please prescribe to me briefly how external coupling can be done.
is between TOMAWAC and artemis coupling? and what is the difference between this coupling and chaining of them?

thanks for your effort and concern

Hi!

I have been looking at that recently.
Look at test cases bj78 for both artemis and telemac. In the telemac-2d case, you can see that the program reads the wave stresses computed by artemis in the result file corresponding to the artemis simulation.

This is what is called external coupling, or chaining: you first compute your wave state in artemis and then use the results (assumed to be steady) in your telemac-2d simulation to obtain currents.

Best regards

Hello,

Internal coupling between Artemis-Telemac2D-Sisyphe is not possible at this stage. Chaining between Artemis-Telemac2D and Sisyphe is possible although Sisyphe cannot take into account wave effects in sediment transport, thus rendering underestimated results.

If wave effects are important, which usually are in coastal environments, then you need to do some modifications manually.

The technical problems are:
  • Peak period is not calculated by Artemis
  • Names of output variables in Artemis results do not match those read by Sisyphe, e.g. "FORCE FX" and "FORCE_FX"
  • Artemis requires a much refined mesh that telemac, thus you either have to use one mesh increasing computation time, or use two meshes and interpolate Artemis results to the the telemac one
All of them could be overcome, but you should consider the additional effort.

Best Regards,
Costas
