Hello All,

From post #3040, I've learned how to create a streamline from a velocity field (thank you!). Now I wonder, is it possible animate the streamlines, from a specified location, through the duration of a simulation? (e.g., updating the projected flow path at each time-step?)

Hi Chris,

Animating streamlines hasn't been implemented.

The closest you could get would be to run a PSed simulation with dispersion turned off and neutrally buoyant particles.

Hi Martin,

It is indeed a very good tip to animate a streamline. However, when the ambient velocity gets too high I noticed that the particle state becomes "lost" and the "streamline" does not propagate anymore. Is there a workaround for this? I tried lowering the Ksed factor to some degree and it seems to work for velocities ~ 1-1.2 m/s. However, for larger velocities (~1.5 m/s) it still does not work.

Hi Mathieu,

PSed uses an explicit lagrangian scheme.

Try decreasing the PSed timestep.
To get reasonable particle advection, you should have a minimum element residence time of about 3 steps. So look at the maximum current speed and corresponding minimum representative element length and do the math.
