I would ask pleas about postprocessing.
With Which program do you manage the visualization of the results?

Thank you

Hello,

for postprocessing and visualization of Telemac-2D results the freeware program BlueKenue is really good. Other widely used postprocessing programs especially for Telemac-3D results are e.g. Tecplot (commercial) and Paraview (freeware).

Best regards,
Clemens

Dear Clemens,

May I have another question regarding Blue Kenue, particularly with
mapping bathymetry to the mesh. I think I got problem with the bathymetry data or did something wrong with 2D interpolation because I got negative values (e.g: -6.71142, please see picture below)

Can you guide me how to change it to positive values?

Best Regards

Huy

Hello

This is water elevation which is the algebraic sum of water depth (positive values) and bottom bathymetry which values can be negative depending on the reference level that you have chosen. Generally coastal bathymetry is negative and inland bathymetry is positive, but there is no obligation to that, these are just common uses.

with my best regards

Hello,

the first step would be to have a look on your bathymetry data and compare them with the interpolated values.

To answer your specific question you can multiply the values by -1 in order to have postive values.

Good day Clemens,

I have looked in some examples in TELEMAC to understand how to set up a simulation, but there are some points that I don't understand. I think you and others can easily answer my questions. Please help me out.

Here is an example of a steering file extracting from TELEMAC directory:

/
/
/ INFORMATIC ENVIRONMENT
/
/
/
FORTRAN FILE : t2d_tide-jmj_gen.f
BOUNDARY CONDITIONS FILE : geo_tide.cli
GEOMETRY FILE : geo_tide.slf
ASCII DATABASE FOR TIDE : bdd_tide-jmj.txt
TIDAL MODEL FILE : tid_tide-jmj.slf
HARMONIC CONSTANTS FILE : har_tide-jmj.txt
RESULTS FILE : t2d_tide-jmj_type_gen.slf
VALIDATION : YES
REFERENCE FILE : r2d_tide-jmj_type_gen.slf

In this text file, I just don't understand "REFERENCE FILE" and "RESULT FILE". This is because my understanding is:
- a steering file can be created after I have a geometry file and a boundary condition file, so I have not run the simulation yet.

So, how can I create 'result file' and 'reference file' before running a simulation? or I can put whatever names I want in a steering file providing that the extension is *.slf?

Is it a stupid question? :P

Thanks for your answer in advance

Best Regards

Huy

the reference file and validation is for comparison of the simulated results with the validated results file

for your purpose you can delete or comment out using "/" the following
/ VALIDATION : YES
/ REFERENCE FILE : r2d_tide-jmj_type_gen.slf

your result file is
RESULTS FILE =t2d_tide-jmj_type_gen.slf

there are other keywords you need to include for the graphic output time and the variables to be outputted but the user manual and the many examples should help you with this

Tony

Thanks Tony.

So it means that I have to create a reference file before running a simulation if I want to validate the results? and how can I create a reference file ?

And also, when setting a steering file, can I put any title to name my result file because this file is created during simulation?

Best Regards

Huy

Hi

First, did you read the user manual to understand all the main principle of running a simulation with telemac and all the parameters information?

You don't have to create a reference file, the reference file is use for the validation purpose of Telemac. This is absolutely not mandatory for new computation...

And yes you could give the name you want to the result file.

Christophe

Huy,
As I said just remove the keyword for validation and reference file and you should be able to run the simulation without these keywords (not necessary for applications) only used for validation of test-cases

to name the results file

RESULTS FILE =HUY.slf
or wharever name you want

in the steering file you can specity the title of you study also which will be included in the results file

Please read the manual as a lot of this information is clearly described and use the test case steering files with modifications to your own application to assist you

regards
Tony
