Can Mascaret model high dam ? 5 years 1 month ago #34633

Hi,all.
Can mascaret have ability to model big dam and the dam was considered as an inner conditions? As illustrated below, the big dam is located along a river. On the upstream, I want to give a boundary condition as water level near the dam, while on the bottom of the dam, I want to give a boundary as flow.
***************************************************
(upstream)
++++++++++++++++++DAM
__Water level________|
*\ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|
**\~~~~Reservoir~~~~~|
***\________________|---->outflow (downstream)

***************************************************
I found the method to model weirs or gate in the test case of the Mascaret. But I am not sure whether the software can be used to model high dams? If it is possible, how can I define the dam's boundary conditions?

Thanks all.

Hi

If you want to impose the water level upstream the dam and the discharge downstream, there is no particular reason to have both part in only one model. You could build A model for each part (upstream and downstream)

If you want to have the dam inside your model, you should represent the dam as a weir. You could give a discharge through the weir (like the power plant discharge for example) but you won't be able to fix strictly the water level upstream...

Hope this is clearer for you. If not, you should explain more in detail what you want to do

Christophe
