Crayfish plugin is out and it now has its own grid calculator to work with grid time series:

We are also planning to port support for general unstructured mesh to QGIS core so it can be used in 3D canvas with better integration with the rest of QGIS similar to other data providers. For that, we have started a crowd-funding campaign:
