Actually, the plugin does work on my Fedora laptop. As you have tested so many combinations, it may come from either the virtual box or the plugin itself. Is there any error message when it crashes ? What about using different Selafin files (results, geometry) ?

Indeed, these files are corrupted but there are not relevant. You only need the .f90 file and one of the associated script. A fortran compiler is needed. This converter is light and can solve temporarily your issue. However, it only produces ASCII VTK files...

I think I will give it a last try tonight or tomorrow night to see if it runs at home on a laptop with just linux installed.

I have tried with result and geometry files and in both cases I get the error message: Segmentation fault (core dumped).

In the meantime I have been looking into the sel2vtk fortran program. At first I was a bit alarmed because I got an error again. But that was just because I tried to directly run the code with the result-file instead of a text-file specifying the input file, output-folder etc.
Now it works!!!

I am actually quite happy with this solution!! It needs this additional step in between, but still it is much better than coding the visualisation myself in R.
