Hello,

I am modeling a sedimentation pit with suspended sediment transport, the pit has an entrance channel and an exit; When I perform the simulation the material is deposited in the exit of the input channel (as shown in the graph). I would like to know how I can improve the simulation.

Annex the cas de sisyphe.

Thanks :cheer:

Hello,
There are several things you can try.
First and foremost, the settling velocity value can have a deep impact on your solution. Try to impose a value other that the one computed internally by Sisyphe.
For the treatment of the advection term (TYPE OF ADVECTION) you can try edge-based numerical schemes (13,14) or Eria (15) they are suitable for tidal flats or distributive (5, 6, not suitables for tidal flats).
You can also incorporate the keyword CORRECTION ON CONVECTION VELOCITY = YES that modifies the depth-averaged convection velocity to account for the vertical gradients of velocities and concentration.
Hope it helps,
best wishes,
pablo

Hello,

Is the result very wrong then? Without knowing the velocity field and the horizontal scales on your plot, it is hard to answer your question. But I would expect that 200 micron sand entering a stilling basin with a steep drop in bed level would deposit almost immediately, especially if it is combined with the MPM formula for bedload and Bijker for suspended load.
