Hello Guys,
I am trying to model the sedimentation in a desander to assess its sediment trap efficiency.
I already had developed a 2D model (using K-Eps) with good agreement of the physical model results, but when I moved to 3D, using the same settings parameters than the 2D, the sedimentation is significantly smaller. The trap efficiency decays more than 10%
Checking the turbulence parameters I found that for 3D I have a really weird distribution pattern and also really high values for the turbulent energy(10000 J/kg), which I think are not right.
The attached image shows the turbulent energy for the 3D (above) and 2D (below).
Trying to get it simpler I used the constant viscosity turbulence model for 2D and 3D models. The results were practically the same, good agreement for 2D and smaller sedimentation for 3D.
In this case I cannot printout the turbulent energy to check its pattern and values, but flow velocity, friction velocity, froude number and others hydraulic parameters seems to not have changed when compared to the 3D model using K-Eps.
Does anyone have an explanation for this weird turbulence in Telemac3D?
Does anyone have found similar results of smaller sedimentation for T3D than T2D whan coupled with Sisyphe?
I also attached the T2D, T3D and Sisyphe steering files if you want to check the configuration.
Thanks in advance
Marcus
