Hello all,

I am a new telemac user, and it would be nice if some of you could give me some tips for getting started!

I downloaded the latest version of telemac and i followed the recommendations regarding the use of Blue Kenue as a prepro mesher.
My plan is to build up the mesh with BKenue and finalize the preprocess with Fudaa (BC, IC, time series data...).

Could you please help me on the following :
- is it possible to create a mesh characterizing the ground surface with BK (i only managed to create XY [not Z] objects) ?
- what is the mesh format to be set at the end of the BK process and that can be accepted by Fudaa for the following steps (BC, IC, ...) ; it can open .ngh formats, but I don't manage to modify or add anything
- does Fudaa create the preprocess files in a telemac-compatible format (as i does when setting a Rubar model for example: .cli, .ouv, ...) ?

Thank you in advance for your help !

Hi
First of all, read the manual of Bleu Kenue andhave a look on the video of fudaa!
Blue Kenue generate a mesh (space traingulation) where you could map the topography or Bathymetry. Z is not use for the mesh generation itself.
The mesh format for all telemac system is Selafin (big endian). BK could generate such file and Fudaa could read it without any problem
Fudaa could allow you to interpolate a bathymetry on a mesh.
If you have geometry file (selafin format) Fudaa could create all the files requiered for running a simulation.

Thank you very much,

I of course read the manual, but the difference between a triangulation object and a mesh is not clear, neither the way to export it on slf format...

But i will retry.

In such case, ask for more precise questions!
In BK, aftr generating a mesh, you should create a new selafin object in which you move your mesh and the you can save the selafin object as a telemac geometry file (selafin format).
In BK the mesh native format is T3S.

A newTriangulation object is simply an interface to an uncontrained Delaunay triangulator. This is used to generate a surface from some pre-existing geometry (points, lines, etc.).

The newMesher on the other hand provides an interface to generate a proper finite element mesh based on user supplied outlines, islands, constraint lines, element density maps, etc.

Christophe already supplied the answer to "how to generate a slf file".

Thank to both of you for the replies, but i still face some problems...
I created a selafin file using the following process:
- i created a 2D mesh (t3m)
- i followed the instructions detailed in the manual for creating a selafin file (add the outline and then the 2d mesh named "BOTTOM"), and saved it as .slf (big endian).

But i can't manage to open it with fudaa. The only way to open a mesh is to have a .ngh file, but then i cannot modify anything on it...

Sorry, but could you please tell me what i am doing wrong ?

Thx in advance

Does FUDAA present you with an error regarding the file?

No, it just can't open it.
Furthermore, the .ngh files have the "mesher" icon, but not the .slf, which seems strange...

Post the slf file here or email it to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
and I'll have a look at it.

I'll leave it up to a FUDAA expert to address the "icon" question.

Cheers... Martin

I'm able to open your file with FUDAA version 1.1 RC13 [2010-10-20] without problems.

I'm not sure what your problem might be.

Sorry... Martin
