Hello all,

This message is in response to a query from Sumit regarding the mapping
of bathymetry to a mesh.
I thought I would start a new thread with a more appropriate subject line.

Once a mesh has been created...

Create a SELAFIN file (*.slf)

1. File->New->Selafin Object…
2. Right click on the Selafin object in the WorkSpace and select
“Add Variable” to add a mesh object as a variable such as BOTTOM or
FRICTION etc. to the Selafin object. (See section 2.4.2.1 in the manual)

Next, mapping the bathymetry from your source xyz points and/or contour lines to
the mesh is achieved via an interpolator object.

1. File->New->2D Interpolator…
2. In the workspace drag any number of pointsets, 2D or 3D linesets onto
the Interpolator object.
3. Open the properties dialog for the interpolator
4. Choose the interpolation method (Linear, Inverse Distance or Nearest Neighbour)
5. Optionally supply a closed polygon to constrain the interpolation.
6. Optionally suppy a Max Search Distance to contrain the interpolator.
7. Select your mesh in the WorkSpace to make it the current object.
8. “Tools->Map Object…” and select the Interpolator object as the source
data when prompted.

This MapObject function is generic, so you can use it to map any values
to a mesh (roughness, sediment grain size, whatever...)

Hi Martin,

I've successfully created a mesh in Blue Kenue, and am trying to map bathymetry onto it.

Unfortunately you lost me at Step 1 'File->New->2D Interpolator'

I don't have the option of '2D Interpolator'..(attached)

It's possible that I haven't got the latest version of Blue Kenue (3.1.3), but I cannot download from the archive.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca site as linked to under 'downloads' above (the form doesn't work).

Any help gratefully appreciated,

Best regards,
Dougal

Hi Dougal,

As you correctly deduced, you are working with an old version of Blue Kenue.

Unfortunately as has been discussed in another thread, our download site has been corrupted in the course of a major overhaul by our corporate WEB people :-(

I've been away for the past 4 weeks but am now working with the WEB folks to resolve the problem.

I'll post to this forum when the issue is resolved.

Cheers... Martin

Hello

Is it possible to map bathymetrie onto a mesh, and map another bathymétrie onto a submesh?
Indeed, i have two sources of bathymetrie: one bathymetrie for the channel, and another bathymetrie for overbanks.

Thank You.

Hi Mathieu,

You can provide a constraint outline to the 2D Interpolator to achieve this.
First map your overbanks bathymetry to the mesh and then map the bathymetry for the channel. You can easily create the constraint outline of your channel via
"Tools->T3 Mesh->Extract Edges (Shorelines)"

Hope this helps... Martin

Hi Martin,
I didn't know the tool "extract edges", it works very good!

Thank you for your help!
