Hi,

I have been using Blue Kenue successfully to set up coastal models to run them in Telemac. I'm currently using a new software that only accepts the following mesh file formats:
- .msh file
- triangle format (set of 3 files: one file defining the nodes of the mesh .node file, one file describing the elements .ele file, and one file defining the boundary parts of the mesh .edge file for 2D).

Is there a way I can export the files from BK in any of those 2 formats? Alternatively, do you know of any conversion code I could use to transform the data from the BK format to the ones I need?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

What is the name of this new software? The .msh extension is used by a number of software systems and the formats are not necessarily the same. Do you have some documentation on this format?

The second format would be relatively easy to implement a converter for. If you look at the Blue Kenue .t3s file contents, the first section defines the nodes ie. the contents of the .node file, the second section defines the elements ie. the contents of the .ele file.

The boundary of a mesh (the edges) can be extracted from Blue Kenue via "Tools->T3 Mesh->Extract Edges" and saved as an i2s file.

Hope this helps... Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your prompt answer. The software I'm using is Fluidity, developed at the Imperial College of London. I've attached the manual of the software, the pages 293-297 document the formats of meshes accepted.

I have found that BK is by far more user friendly than other mesh generators out there, so being able to use it will make a significant impact in the development of my project!

Thanks,

Alberto

Sorry Martin,

It looks like it doesn't really let me attach a PDF file.

Here is the link where you can download the manual of Fluidity:

Hi Alberto,

Have a look at the ADCIRC file format. These files can be easily modified with a text editor to conform to the GMESH file format which apparently is supported by Fluidity.

Cheers... Martin

Hi all,

Do you know how to create and then export into ADCIRC format (.14) the boundary conditions that appears in the *.14 after the *node position* and *elements connectivity* blocks ?

Thanks,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

If you use the Telemac boundary conditions editor:
"File->New->Boundary Conditions (CONLIM)"

The contents of the NBOR column in the table basically correspond to the ADCIRC boundary conditions section of the .14 file

You'll have to use a text editor to manually fill in the section header details or write a bit of a python script.
If you do write a script or program, please share it here.

Hope this helps... Martin

Hi Serrer,

Just like to ask if I understood you correct, since I try to create a .14 Mesh for SWAN with BlueKenue.
I basically have you copy the content of the NBOR column into the section of the .14 file where the boundary definition starts? Could you please define, what the numbers in the NBOR column actually mean?

Thanks.

Clemens
