Hello,

Does anyone has ever try to load/download the GSHHG high precision coastline to use it as a outline boundary for creating a mesh in BK ?

www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/shorelines/gshhs.html

Thanks,
Laurent

Hello,

Yes -- it is a very good source -- I use it all the time (albeit smoothed for Blue Kenue, depending on specifics of model resolution).

Hope this helps,
Sébastien.

Thanks Sébastien,

I manage to extract a subset of the GSHHS database and plot it into BK as a shape file. As I'm new in BK I don't know how to use this polylines as BC for the mesh. Is there any way to work on this polyline (smooth, resample, move point, add point, etc ...) and prescribe it as a boundary for my mesh ?

Thanks,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

All line editing features are found on the 'Edit->Line Set" menu and LineSet objects context menu. (Also read the fine manual)

Imported shape files cannot be edited. You have to save the lieSet as an i2s file and edit that. (We imposed this restriction years ago before we had full support for writing shape files and just haven't gotten around to changing it :-()

Have a look at one of the Blue Kenue tutorials available here for good descriptions of how to define/process mesher input data.

Cheers... Martin

Hi

Today was a good day, It made a step forward in using BK and create my first mesh. I manage to extract a subset of the GSHHS coastline, convert it into a i2s file. Quite easy indeed. It works fine and I can edit the polylines and polygons contains in this subset *object* (there is many islands in this zone). I was able to split a polyline, close a part of this subset to create an closed-outline for a futur mesh. But I didn't manage to extract this "close-outline" from the its parents objects :( . Any idea ?

I want to be able to work on it only and create a outline from it....

Thanks,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

1. Select the desired line in the 2D view <double-click>
2. <right-click>Copy
3. Edit->Line Set->Create new LineSet from Paste Buffer

Will that do it?

Hi Martin,
That's great it works fine. I simply have to create a fake line set object and paste my selection into it. But I won't let you in peace so easily ;) because now I want to do the same thing but by selecting more than one line into a line set and I didn't find any tricks to make a multiple selection on the *view* ? I've tried the <ctrl>+select but I didn't work.

Is there any tools to make a multiple selection of object or sub-objects in the view panel ? like a <ctrl>+click or select every lines (or nodes, or whatever) inside a box drawn for the mouse ?

Thanks,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

There is no way to select multiple lines.
The best you can do is create a new lineSet from all lines that intersect a polygon.

see: "Tools->Extract Line Subset..."
