Hi,
I have downloaded the world coastline in shape-file format from www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/shorelines/data/gshhg/latest/ but i'll like to edit out every other coastline apart from my area of interest. To achieve this, i have taken the following simple steps:

1. read the shape-file data in to BlueKenue;
2. doubled clicked a point and right clicked but the menu is grayed out so i'm unable to split the selected line. See attached files.

Please can anyone advise on what i can do differently or perhaps how i can get the coastline data in .i2s format?

Many thanks

Hello,
if I understand you correctly:
import the shape file, then under data items click on the item with the contour lines, File -> Save Copy as.. i2s (2D line) or i3s (3D line) -> Open the i2s or i3s line.

And this should be the first thing when working with shape files because the direct manipulation of shape files generates some troubles in BlueKenue.

Best regards,
Clemens

Dear Clemens,
Many thanks for this. It works well!
One other thing please, is there a much more effective way to extract a coastline of the area of interest (just a small portion) from the entire world coastline (huge line and ports)?

Hi,
sorry but I have no idea since coastal stuff is not my field.

Best regards,
Clemens

Hello:
Rather using BlueKenue for GIS manipulation/editing, I would use a proper GIS software (e.g. QGIS, ArcMap). I only use BlueKenue for minor edits.
Cheers, Julien
