Hi Community,

Could anyone tell me how to plot bathymetry (*.txt file) data? Can I use Blue Kenue?

Thank you so much in advance!

I am assuming your text file is in X, y, Z format
and if so change your filename from *.txt to *.xyz and open in Blue Kenue

Thanks Tony! Your suggestion works with text files which present XY location and its depth (in my attachment here I marked it as text file type 1)

Actually I have several huge text files (e.g ~2GB. These files do not show X-Y cordinates vs depths (text file type 2). So, I guest I have to convert them (Please kindly see attachment)

Do you have any suggestions? How can I make this text-file type work in Blue Kenue? Thank you so much!

Hi,

where is your bathymetry data in this file - type 2?
From your screenshot ist looks like there are just missing values and x or y-koordinates in your file...

Best regards,
Gabi

Hi
your second file is in a grid format lidar/topographical file which looks like it is in a standard format that GIS type packages might be able to read directly and generate an xyz file as an export option

I have used this type of file often and have quickly written a simple fortran code that reads the ncols as x number of points and nrows as the y number of points (it may be the other way round but you will know that when you plot it)the xllcorner as the x origin, yllcorner as the y origin and the cellsize = 0.5 as the spacing and then in a do loop read the data (i cant tell from your file sample whether the data is assembled in x values for each y row or the other way around but you would soon find that out with your code.

I got several bathymetry files. As shown in the screen:

As I marked as Type 1, there is no problem with this file, I can open it with Blue Kenue.

But type 2: obviously XY cordinates are missing. So I guest I have to interpolate, and using different program to deal with this file. As you can see this file has XLLCORNER: 294205.5, and YLLCORNER: 5756671; CELLSIZE: 0.5

so it probably can interpolate, and from that I can make a new bathymetry. But I don't know how to do with that.

Can you help me with that?

Thanks a lot

I think your grid file is in ArcInfo grid ascii format so try change your file to .asc and try the import option in Bluekenue for ARcinfo grid
