TOPIC: Problem with previous computation file

Problem with previous computation file 11 years 10 months ago #6920

Hi

I have been trying to use the result file of a 2D hydrodynamic simulation as the previous computation file for the same 2D simulation with a tracer (temperature). However, I haven't been able to get it to work. I am getting the following error in the output file:

LIT : ABNORMAL END OF FILE
ONE INTENDED TO READ
A RECORD OF 72 VALUES
OF TYPE : CH
ON LOGICAL UNIT : 4

I have also used the matlab tool to extract just the last time step from the result file and use this new .slf file as the previous computation file, but I am still getting the same error. I don't know what the problem is.
I am attaching the output file and the case file

Any suggestions are appreciated

Thanks

Viviana

Hello,

Most probably the file is not correct, the record of 72 characters is the first record, the title. You could try to see if the file is correct by trying to read it with Fudaa or Blue Kenue or Rubens.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am able to open and check the results in Bluekenue and they are fine.

Hello,

Isn't it a problem of Big or Little_endian ? (Matlab on Windows would give IEE Little_endian and Telemac expects IEE Big_endian, Blue Kenue recognizes both). I am not sure but this could be an explanation.

Thanks, this would explain why the shorter file containing only the last time step does not work. But I have also tried to use the whole result file without exporting it to Windows, and I got exactly the same error. So, I am still not sure how to use a previous computation file for a new simulation.

Yes, this is very strange, unless you played with double precision for file formats with keywords like : RESULTS FILE FORMAT='SERAFIND'.

Hello,

No, it is OK, so I do not understand what happens, unless the results file is not correct for some unknown reason, and this property is transmitted to the smaller file. Depending on the language reading the file, the behaviour may be different if there is a problem. You can try one thing : use a copy of the smaller file instead of your geometry file. Normally it works (same standard). If you get the same error on unit 1, then it is linked to the file, not to the computation continued procedure. For example if for some reason your results files are all built in Little_endian (setting Big_endian is a compiler option) and you look at them with Blue Kenue that accepts it, you will see the problem only when you try to read your results files with Telemac.

Hi

I have tried what you suggested, so instead of the geometry file I have used the smaller file (.slf). However, I am getting an the same error. So maybe the problem is not the file but something else.

Thanks

Hi Viviana,

Could it be possible to get your .slf files so I can test them?
(last_timestep.slf and Clinton_geometry.slf)
And can you tell me what compiler and architecture you are running on.

Thanks
Yoann
