Hi,

I am wondering how do i fix the shape of the boundary outline to create mesh. I mean, if i take a gulf region for modeling including some part of the sea. I have a doubt on making the shape on the offshore side for outline of my mesh creation. how do i give offshore region shape whether it is in a arc shape or trapezoidal or 'L' shape. Which is the best one and what is the exact reason behind the selection.

-thanks,
Sathish

Hi

You can choose the shape that you want, but you need to consider the following points:
- the simplest shape (straight lines are preferred over curved lines)
- you have the boundary condition to prescribe i.e. you cut the domain for instance where you have a known elevation. For coastal models, if such condition is missing, the use of Thompson condition can overcome the problem
- boundary must be far enough to not influence the area of interest

I hope that this helps

my best regards
