I want to create a mesh to run a model using ARTEMIS for a harbor. I need a polygon for the boundaries, but only have a point set (.xyz file) of the shoreline. Is there any way I can create a logical polygon out of this point set? I have included the .xyz file.

Hello vknook,

Please see the attached potential workaround to convert an xyz boundary point file into a closed 2D or 3D poly:

File Attachment:

File Name: closed_poly_from_xyz_workaround.pdf
File Size: 179 KB

Please note that this assumes your boundary xyz points are in sequential order (clockwise or counterclockwise). There may be an official way to achieve this, however, this is how I would approach your request.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks a lot! That totally helped. Note for a next user: You'll have to change the first number in line 16 (just before all the coordinates start) as this seems to dictate the amount of points that will be part of the line. If there are more coordinates, a second line will be created instead of one closed polygon.

Hi,

The i2s/i3s file format is described in Appendix A of the Blue Kenue reference manual.
Unfortunately it fails to mention that a closed line (polygon) is defined by having identical first and last points.

My apologies for this oversight.

Martin
