In the Blue Kenue section of the forum, there are currently 6 topics that are "sticky". Meaning that they are not normal topics because they are "stuck" to the beginning of the list until I "unstick" them.

One of those is a topic that is likely related to your question; which I'm assuming is "How can I download the most recent alpha version?"

Hope that helps...

Kindly,
Alan

Hi Martin,

Do you know how to use "swap edge," "split edge," and "split element" functions? I mean now I have a mesh but how can I select a particular edge or element?

Thank you,
Jason

The first step in this post suggests:
"Search the Reference Manual for what you are trying to do. If you find something then read that section of the manual. But if that section doesn't help you, then keep searching the manual and reading other section(s)."

Therefore, searching for "swap edge" in BK 3.12.22-beta reference manual leads me to page 71 and a section called "Editing T3 Meshes". Similar result for "split edge". "split element occurs twice on page 72.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your prompt reply! I did see the "Editing T3 Meshes" section and the description for "swap edge" etc (I'm using BK 3.4.4; I assumed the functionality didn't differ much). It says that the function is available "when an internal edge of a mesh is selected." I wasn't clear about how to select an edge of a mesh. This was why I asked the question... how do we select a particular edge? I'd appreciate any hint you may have!

Thank you,
Jason

For BK 3.12.22 - beta:
  • Turn OFF the following (i.e. remove the check mark): Edit > T3 Mesh > Options > Select Node Only
  • Double click on a node to select a node... and after selecting, the point will be coloured in magenta
  • Double click on an element to select an elemnent... an element is the triangle... so, after selecting, the triangle will be filled with magenta

Alternatively, after right-clicking on the mesh to bring up the context menu (i.e. the popup) then you may:
  • Select > Node ID...
  • Select > Element ID...
To bring up a dialog box that allows you to provide the number of the node or element to select (if you already know it).

Kindly... Alan

PS The Edit > Select Item... functionality is also available

I should also say that you can select an edge (rather than a node or a triangle) by double clicking on the edge. Then the edge between 2 adjacent triangles will be bold magenta, and the adjacent triangles will be outlined in a thin line of magenta.

The 3 selections look like this:
  • LEFT: a node is selected
  • MIDDLE: an edge is selected
  • RIGHT: an element is selected

The next beta will include a new reference manual "How To" entry for this topic...

Thank you so much Alan! I think I was missing Tip 90 here. After deselecting "node only," everything works now!

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation.
