Dear All
I am a beginner to Telemac2d. I have produced the geometry.slf by BlueKenue for a coastal area. Now I want to define my boundaries. I have some questions:

1-Should I use Fudaa for this purpose or TPXO?
2-Is there any step by step example for using Fudaa or TPXO? Most of the examples are old in this site and they are not clear. The example in the site is Also for Baxter River and is not applicable for my case
3-How can I allocate the contents to the boundaries?

Thanks for you help.

Hello,

What do you call Fudaa? Fudaa-prepro that enables you to visualise the results or edit a boundary conditions file?

What is your first question, to generate a boundary conditions file? I cannot use Blue Kenue, but maybe it is also possible from it? Please read the Blue Kenue section, you may get answers.

TPXO belongs to tidal solutions connected to TELEMAC to compute boundary conditions at maritime nodes. You can have a look at the example available in $HOMETEL/examples/telemac2d/tide/t2d_tide-ES_real.cas read the user manual and other discussions in this forum.

As a beginner, I strongly advise you to read the TELEMAC-2D user manual and use the search feature of this forum which may help you.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

Dear Chi
Thanks for your reply.
I have studied the manual but at the current time I don't know how I can use TPXO as a tidal model to my telemac2d, the manual is somehow vague. Would you please let me know:
1-I should download TPXO or just requesting tide height or tide velocity or both of them from website?
2-which parameters should I active in Fudaa-Prepro to add the tidal flow?
(I have received the height tide file from website)
Thanks and Regards

Hello again Arman,

Perhaps the manual is vague for you but I can tell you your questions or explanations are not clear for me.

Which website do you mean: tpxows.azurewebsites.net/ ?

The recommended strategy when starting a TELEMAC model is to find the closest example in the TELEMAC data base, start from the associated steering file. In your case as already told is the t2d_tide-ES_real.cas
Then adapt it to fit what you want to model.

Depending on the extent of your TELEMAC-2 model and if you want to be accurate when computing your tidal boundary conditions (if they should depend on the location or if the same value for every tidal node is OK + if they should depend on time with a good accuracy or if a 1 hour sample with linear interpolation between 2 times is OK), you will have your answer.
Using a tidal solution coming from Oregon State University (e.g. TPXO global solution) can directly be used with TELEMAC (see the above example) and computes tidal boundary conditions dependent on location and varying in time for everty time step.
If you use a time series of surface elevation and/or velocities, you have to use a LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE.
I do not know the area, you have to decide.

What use of Fudaa-Prepro do you mean: visualisation, boundary conditions file generator, steering file editor? Fudaa-prepro is not maintained and not so used.

Hope this may help you,

Chi-Tuan

Dear Chi
Yes this is the website. The file format should be use as it is? For which time period it should be downloaded?
The TPXO can not apply as a boundary condition. It can be used as initial condition or a tidal option. Which one I should choose?
Again thanks for your email. I am trying to fit the example you noted above.

Hello again Arman,

I assume the ASCII file you received is a time series of surface elevation and/or velocity? I have never tried this website feature.
You have to put this data in a LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE (see the TELEMAC-2D user manual for the format to follow and this keyword name, and you will have to provide a duration at least as long as the duration of your computation, i.e. "the last time value provided must be the same as or greater than the corresponding value at the last time step of the simulation" as written in the TELEMAC-2D user manual).

TPXO global solution can be used as boundary conditions (tidal boundary conditions) and/or initial conditions with TELEMAC. You can use it depending on what you want.

Hope this helps,

Dear Chi
I have questions using tpxo for my boundary conditions.
1-How I should provide binary format for h and u files? I have requested from website and received just received a text file.
2-How I can address these files in my .cas file.
Thanks for your help

Hello again,

I think your other topic tries to answer your 1st item.

For the 2nd question, what is written in the TELEMAC-2D user manual seemed clear to me (and I think many users):
"if using TPXO database, the name of the water level database is given by the keyword BINARY DATABASE 1 FOR TIDE (for example h_tpxo7.2) and the name of the velocity database is given by the keyword BINARY DATABASE 2 FOR TIDE (for ex-
ample u_tpxo7.2)."

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

Hi
Is TPXO 7.2 already exist?
Can you extract these two binary files for me ?
My local area is Halong Bay in Vietnam with : 107.058 20.923

Thanks
