TOPIC: vector time series

vector time series 1 year 7 months ago #42292

Hello,

I need a vector time series to calculate velocity rose.
I make the scalar time series, but I can't convert it into a vector.
How can I create a vector time series(ts2 or ts4)?
Thankful.
sina

BK allow you to directly compute the velocity rose.
Have a look to the BK manual.

Hello.
thanks for your response.
I have read the manual but I don't understand. If possible, give more guidance. In the manual, it says that time series should be vector.

Just try to visualize the extracted time series as a polar view instead of a simple time series...

Hello,

Here are the steps to compute/view a velocity rose.

1. With a "VELOCITY UV" object in a 2D view.
2. Select the desired location of interest by double-clicking on a node or vectorTail
3. Right-click and select "Extract TimeSeries"
4. Right-click on the TimeSeries object in the WorkSpace and select "Extract Velocity Rose"
5. Modify the appropriate fields in the resulting dialog box to achieve the desired speed and direction distributions. (or use the defaults) and select OK
6. Open a "New Polar View"
7. Drag the Velocity Rose object created at step 5 into the new polar view.

The Velocity Rose can be saved as an ASCII VR1 file for further processing if required. Consult the manual appendix for an explanation of the file format.

Hope this helps... Martin

Which version of BK did you use Martin? The latest alpha may have an issue during extraction of the Velocity Rose from the time series

Hi Alan,
V3.5.1 from 2014
I can't build the latest because I don't have a Fortran compiler.

The next release of Blue Kenue will have a fix for creating a Velocity Rose from a Vector Time Series
  • More specifically, the fix will be in BK 3.12.8-alpha

Kindly,
Alan
