Dear Pilou,

There is two ways to do so in Tecplot:
1) By loading a previously defined grid file (user defined)
2) By defining the grid directly in Tecplot (structured)

Please try the following:
- load your 3D data in Tecplot.
- define the grid you wish to extract:
1) In File->Load Data File(s) choose the appropriate loader and select Add to current data set
2) In Date->Create Zone->Rectangular, define the grid by filling up the required fields
- interpolate your field values on the grid: Data->Interpolate->Inverse Distance.
Then choose the volume data as the Source Zone and the Loaded(1)/Created(2) grid as the Destination zone

Your 3D data is now on the user defined grid.

Please note that this operation can be automated for a gain in time.

An other way is to do the following:
-Toggle on Slices and define the slice of interest.
-Extract the slice: Data->Extract->Current slices (Slices over time if you have transient data)
-Then interpolate the extracted slice on the user defined grid as defined above

To turn on vectors on the grid points, just toggle on the Vector button on the left panel.
You can change your vector style in the Zone Style dialog on the vector tab.
A tool of interest is the Index skip in the Points tab, which allows to plot a vector every IJK grid point.

Please let me know if this helps. We can also organize a personal webinar.

Cdlt,

Antoine

Hello dear Antoine,

I attended in your lecture on post processing Telemac results using Tecplot. Now, I have a problem with 3D view. when loading slf data into Tecplot and plot 3D, showing only one variable. I want to see the geometry or bottom then the water depth or free surface flow or any other variable showing over it but I cant do it. Would you please show us the procedure how to do it just like your demonstration I attached here in third file.

Thanks
AMANJ

Dear Amanj,

In the demonstration, I defined a contour level at velocity_Magnitude = 0.
Then I edited the contour map to link the value 0 to a grey color.

Another way to do such a thing is to use the value blanking tool (in Plot->Blanking). You can then define constraints to blank the plot according to a value of a variable.

Please note that you can use the translucency to view "Through" a surface. You can modify the translucency in the Zone Style dialog, under the Effects tab.

Does it answer your question?

Best,

Antoine

Dear Antoine,

Thank you so much for quick replying. I did all what you mentioned above, but still i have problem. When shifting the time for example to the middle of time span, my bottom contour is disappear. How can I fix the bottom as unchanged with respect to time?Just like you did in your demonstration as shown in fig.3. if you take a look at fig 1 and 2 which showed two different time. in the second time, geometry of my embankment is disappear. How to make it appear throughout all time domain?

Many Thanks

Dear Amanj,

You can set a zone to exist in all of your time steps.

To do so, go to Data->Edit Time Strands. In the dialog, you can specify a time strand Id for each zone.
The time strand Id define an object, i.e. each zone with the same Id are considered as the same object.

Setting the Time Strand to 0 tells Tecplot that your zone exists in all time steps. If your embankment is constant over time, you should set its time strand to 0.

For other values of time strands, you can define the time to display the given zones. In the Edit time strands dialog, enter the solution time on which you wish to have your zone displayed.

I hope this helps.

If not, please write me an email so we can set up a personal webinar during which you could show me your data: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Hello Antoine,

I was wondering is Telemac data loader now compatibe with Tecplot 360 EX R014 R1 and if yes where can I find that.

Thanks for your help.

Best wishes,
